Blue Ridge Harvest Calendar
The Blue Ridge Harvest Calendar provides a collective storehouse for our community to preserve and build our local knowledge of when, where, and how to sustainably harvest the abundant food, medicine, and craft materials in our fields and forests. We ask community members to record information about foraging and hunting trips including species name, harvest dates, plant community type, location, photos, drawings, maps, accounts, and stories in field journals throughout the harvest season.
This project is in collaboration with Blue Ridge Discovery Center (BRDC) who is managing the project. Data may be submitted on BRDC’s website through the “Harvest Calendar Form” and will help to develop a comprehensive harvest calendar that we can add to every year. Blog posts announce harvest reminders and highlight our collective findings and stories of sustainably harvesting, processing, and using natural products from our fields and forests.
